Hypospadias is a birth defect in which the opening of the urethra (i.e. the tube through which urine drains from the bladder and leaves the body) is not located at the tip of the penis. Instead, the opening of the urethra is anywhere from just below the end of the penis to the scrotum. Hypospadias repair is a surgery that corrects the position of the urethra on a patient’s penis.
If hypospadias is not treated it can lead to problems later in life, such as difficulty performing sexual intercourse or difficulty urinating while standing.
