Medical Ethics in Laboratory

The principles of doing “good” and not doing “harm” are the essence of every code of medical ethics. Laboratory Medicine is mandated with ethical usage of patient data and other materials for the optimum utilization of the same for benefit of the individual and the society.

“Decisions about diagnosis, prognosis and treatment are frequently based on results and interpretations of laboratory tests. Irreversible harm may be caused by erroneous tests.” Therefore, ethics plays a significant role in laboratory medicine.
