In order to raise awareness about its mission, the Indus Hospital (TIH) in collaboration with the Karachi United, organized a football match between Nixor College and Cedar College. The event was held on November 9, 2019 at Karachi United Football Stadium and marked the opening of Karachi United’s landmark school event – Karachi United School Championship (KUSC) XV.

Football for A Cause was a great way for the players to participate in a healthy sport activity. The objective was not only to provide students with an opportunity to play football in a fun environment, but also to raise awareness for the Indus Hospital’s initiatives and healthcare issues affecting the community.

The event started with the national anthem. Both teams enthusiastically participated and showed their potential. The two teams were the finalists at last year’s KUSC, and provided a pulsating display of football yet again.

The Nixor College took a lead in the first half when they scored their first goal and this lead continued before the end of the match. But, this match entered into an exciting phase when Cedar College leveled the scored in the last minute which moved the match forward to the penalty shootout. Nixor College took the lead in penalties but Cedar overturned the match when their goalkeeper saved multiple shoots which made them win the match by 4-3.

Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Health Network (IHN); Dr. Shamvil Ashraf Executive Director, Medical Services; Dr. Zafar Zaidi, Senior Executive Director, Academics and Projects Directorate; Mashhood Rizvi, Executive Director, Communication and Resource Development Department were present at the event. Ali Ata, Director of Football Development, KU; and Furkan Ali, GM Community Events represented KU.

He said, ‘I’m grateful to the management of Karachi United; Nixor College; and Cedar College for this thrilling match. Sporting activities are necessary because they bring physical and mental fitness which translates into a healthy and successful society.

I’m particularly indebted to the young players and urge them to become Indus Hospital’s ambassadors.’ Mr. Ali Ata from Karachi United added that providing a safe and professional sporting environment is critical for the uplift of our city. He added that the KUSC XV is aimed towards providing these opportunities, and this year Karachi United has already received entries from over 70 schools across the city to participate.
