Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) led a breast cancer awareness campaign throughout October to create awareness about the early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
On October 28, 2022, an all-staff event was hosted by IHHN’s Primary Care Program (PCP) Team to spread awareness regarding the gaps in knowledge regarding the illness. The event was organized, executed, and conducted by Fyza Shahzad, Deputy Program Manager, PCP, IHHN. Attendees included male and female healthcare workers, office staff, and program directors of IHHN’s Primary Care Program (PCP) and Community Health Directorate (CHD) department.
The event started with a short physical activity followed by an informative session that encouraged open communication regarding the illness and opened the floor for discussions between the staff on how to make it easier for breast cancer survivors to deal with the illness and create awareness in their social circles. Healthcare workers were given takeaway notes and insight on how to provide information to patients that they come across during their awareness and outreach programs.
This was followed by a self-examination session which taught participants how to do self-checks on a regular basis. In the end, a small activity was conducted to have all attendees write down a short description of how to actively work towards creating access to identifying breast cancer at an early stage and help create awareness.
The all-staff session included the CEC department’s community health workers who work in IHHN’s Korangi Campus, Zaibunnissa clinic, and Baba Island. They include Sana Muqueem, Zulfiqar Jumani, Naseem Faisal, Muhammad Abid Javaid, Danya Muzahir, Rehman Khanzada, Saira Raheem, and Ahtesham Abbasi.
Indus Hospital & Health Network also held similar breast cancer awareness sessions for its corporate partners, schools, and universities. A total of 37 sessions were held, each with a minimum of 40 attendees. The sessions were led by Dr. Ghina Shamsi, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, Indus University of Health Sciences; Dr. Nazia Lodhi, Consultant, General Surgery, IHHN; Dr. Nurhat Irfan, Consultant, Radiology, IHHN; and residents from IHHN, Korangi Campus’s Radiology and General Surgery departments.
