The Indus University of Health Sciences (IUHS) held the ‘White Coat’ ceremony for the new students of the Indus College of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Indus College of Medical Technology and Allied Health Sciences on Friday, April 9, 2021. The esteemed faculty members welcomed the new students by handing over a ‘white coat’.
The ceremony started with Tilawat followed by the National Anthem and a short introduction of the University. The College of Physical Therapy admitted 22 while 32 students have enrolled in the College of Medical Technology and Allied Health Sciences.
“I am thankful to Allah that we are here today and have managed to see this day. This was one of the dreams of the pioneers of The Indus Hospital. We wanted to build an educational institution where people come, get trained, and take our mission forward,” Dr. Zafar Zaidi, Senior Executive Director, Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) and Dean, IUHS said.
He added that the idea for the University was not just to have another medical college or university where people just come and get a degree but build an institution where people come to learn and to serve.
“It’s a great day for all of you who are embarking upon a great journey. We hope to make you the best healers in Pakistan that health sciences can produce,” he added.
Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, CEO, IHHN said that this was a historical moment for IHHN and for those coming to the colleges. “To the new students, I have only one piece of advice, if you help these patients you will get what is beyond your wildest dream because the prayers of these patients are being heard,” he said.
Chairman Board of Directors IHHN, Abdul Karim Paracha congratulated the students. He said, “Not only have you picked a noble profession which will help people but have also picked an institution which itself is serving humanity,” he added.
Dr. Bari, Dr. Zafar Zaidi, Dr. Ashar Alam, Dr. Amin Chinoy, Dr. Shamvil Ashraf Abdul Karim Paracha, board member Khalid Khanani and Anis Nazrani, deputy general manager, Human Resource handed the white coats to the students.
Dr. Atiya Rohilla, Principal, Indus College of Medical Technology and Allied Health Sciences, and Farrukh Siddique, Vice Principal, Indus College of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation delivered the vote of thanks.
