Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Joined Hands with Indus to Support the Cochlear Implant Program

Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) and The Indus Hospital, Karachi, along with three private hospitals joined hands in first ever public private partnership for conducting cochlear implant surgeries of the speaking and hearing impaired children of poorest of the poor segment of society.

Memorandum of Understanding was signed separately with each of the four hospitals which included:  The Indus Hospital, Karachi; Bahria Hospital; Mukhtar A. Shekih Hospital, Multan; and National Hospital and Medical Centre, Lahore.

Director Medical PBM Dr Javed Iqbal and representatives of inked the MoU on behalf of their respective hospitals. CEO, Indus Health Network, Dr Abdul Bari Khan represented TIH.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Medical, PBM, Dr Javed Iqbal said, “Process for applying for cochlear implant surgery has been made very simple and transparent. Any deserving patient could apply through PBM’s online portal.”

So far, 534 families have applied for the implant and they have been scheduled for surgery within the next six months on first come first serve basis.
