World Hearing Day is an advocacy event celebrated on 3 March each year. The aim of this day is to raise awareness regarding hearing loss, and to promote ear and hearing care at national and community levels across the world. Every year, this day addresses a specific theme, and to reflect this, activities are carried out by World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners.
In collaboration with the WHO, the Indus Hospital (TIH)’s ENT Department planned multiple activities inside and outside the hospital, reaching out to more than 4000 people in Karachi. An interactive session kicked off the celebrations at the Physical and Rehabilitation Department of the Indus Hospital. The ENT department conducted a free ear check-up and speech language and hearing screening session at the Waja Rahim Buksh Sarbazi Government Girls Secondary School. Over 70 children had their ears checked, out of which 12 were identified with hearing problems. The department also participated and reached out to the local population of Karachi through FM 97.1 radio channel to raise awareness about hearing prevention.
TIH’s contribution were recognized and applauded in WHO’s publication: https://www.who.int/deafness/world-hearing-day/WHD_2019_activities_report.pdf
