Hear from Ibrahim – Cancer Without a Cost

It was back in December 2019 when Ibrahim started showing signs that something was wrong. Plagued by harsh breathing, frequent vomiting, high fevers, and drastic weight loss, Ibrahim was rushed to his local hospital.

“We could not have imagined the reason for all these health issues would be stage 4 cancer,” said his mother.

After being diagnosed with testicular cancer, subsequent CT scans showed that the cancer had spread to his lungs and kidneys. Ibrahim was told chemotherapy lifted his chances of survival to 80%, but it also cost PKR 40 lacs.

“Hearing that number felt like a death sentence. My father was unemployed and was suffering from COVID-19; this was when the pandemic was at its peak. We thought we might have to sell our home just to survive.”

A close relative informed Ibrahim about Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), where patients received quality medical care absolutely free. At IHHN, Ibrahim was immediately taken on by Dr. Fatima Ambreen who started his treatment.

Four months of chemotherapy and a surgery later, Ibrahim was officially declared cancer free!

“I want to share my story with the world. Without Indus Hospital, I would not be standing here right now. They cured my cancer without taking a single rupee in return.”

Today Ibrahim is pursuing his A levels at Alpha College and has already begun chasing his dream of being a writer, with his first book detailing his journey battling cancer. He has big plans for the future.

There are thousands more children like Ibrahim whose entire lives are ruined by the devastatingly high cost of treatment.
